IKEA here in West Sacramento is starting a blanket drive. Bring a new or gently-used blanket to the store until December 13, and help the less fortunate at the Sacramento Area Emergency Housing Center stay warm. And as an added incentive, while you're at IKEA, take a look at the newest attraction on November 23, 24 & 25 -- Good Day's Mark S. Allen and family, living in one of those model rooms you see throughout the store! But please don't feed them -- that'll only make them cranky...

A Plane? No! The Shuttle!

It's that time again! The International Space Station (ISS) and the Shuttle Atlantis are passing right over your house.

Hubby and I just happened to catch them over the summer - but you can check NASA's website to find out when they'll be over your neck of the woods, or maybe your mom's house in Pasadena. Between now and November 28th, there's an opportunity almost every day. Grab the kids for a quick science lesson!

Join me Lisa G. and CBS13 meteorologist Laura Skirde for a fun race. We're doing the relay in this year's California International Marathon. The CIM is one of the best known races in Northern California. Laura is a runner and this is her first CIM run. Two years ago, I ran the final (and the most fun) leg of the race. This year I will have the longest at 7.6 miles. Lisa G. will have the glory run, the last leg, and end the race to the crowd of cheering spectators. The race starts at 7am and it is freezing! That's the one thing I remember. You wait for your team member and freeze your rear off until they arrive. But it is a great feeling to hit the road with thousands of athletes. Join us!

Learn more about the CIM: http://www.runcim.org/

TV_Trotters_Stef_Lisa_Laura_204.jpg

Free Swine Flu Clinics!

Today could be your lucky day - IF you qualify for a swine flu shot!

It brought back memories for many of us: Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood, Romper Room and of course, Sesame Street. But no one could remember my favorite "The Great Space Coaster". Remember Gary Gnu with the gnews? Check this out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dddm5bQeKvg

I thanked Tina on the air for the Box Tops she collected for my son Grant. His school collects the Box Tops as a fundraiser. You can find them on cereal, Ziploc, Betty Crocker and Kleenex boxes. I mentioned it on the air and some of our viewers were so sweet and sent in Box Tops. Thank you to Janice in Woodland, Linda in Happy Camp and so many more! I appreciate your thoughtfulness in collecting. His school appreciates it!

I met my dream celebrity yesterday when Ultramarathon Man Dean Karnazes stopped by our studio. Dean was in town for a fitness event and talked to us about his running, best-selling books and what's next for him. He's been named by GQ and Men's Fitness and one of the "Most Influential Athletes in the World", "Best Bodies"... on and on. He's run 130 miles races in 120 degree heat, he's run for 24 hours straight and he's run 50 marathons in 50 days. He does all this while eating Domino's Pizza, donuts and Snickers. He's an amazing athlete. I was at a live shot with Lisa Gonzales at Fairytale Town but I rushed back to meet him. He waited for me to return. Even better, despite his success, Dean was humble and down-to-earth. He was patient while I asked about his eating regimen, running and family. Thanks Dean for making my day!

We want to see it!! And maybe TASTE it!

We're looking for those yummy recipes that have been handed down from generation to generation. I have a whole cookbook full of them, that my Aunt Ann put together for all of us girls. I'll start this off with one of my childhood favorites that I've been getting requests for lately. Dee-lishus!

Marianne's Grandma's 'Supper on a Bread Slice'

1½ lbs lean hamburger

1 med yellow onion, chopped

2/3 c milk

1 egg, beaten

2 cups grated Velveeta cheese (don't use anything else but Velveeta)

2 c bread cubes (just tear up some French bread)

1 T prepared mustard

Salt and pepper

1 loaf of French bread (in addition to the cubes above)

Aluminum foil

Slice the loaf of French bread horizontally, so there's a top and a bottom. Cover the sides and bottom with foil, so just the top is exposed.

Mix all the other ingredients together to make a cheesy meatloaf. Pile it on top of the bread halves to make two equal pieces. Bake them on a cookie sheet at 350° for probably 45 minutes to an hour, until the meat portion looks crispy and done! Let it cool for a few minutes, then cut it into 2" slices. Try not to eat the whole thing by yourself.

I've overheard women in the dressing room at Nordstrom say they were being measured for a new bra because they'd lost weight. But you know their former foundation wear has to be in good condition! Now there's a place that'll give them new life.

In conjunction with Bosom Buddy Recycling, "At Last Bra & Lingerie" of Sacramento is launching B.R.A. -- "Bra Recycling Advocates"! Bring in a bra you no longer wear, but is too nice to toss out... and they'll make sure it gets to a women's shelter and finds good use. They can really use mastectomy and breast-feeding bras, too! Contact At Last Bra & Lingerie to find out how to donate.

Since revealing her breast cancer last spring and sharing her story with all of us and all of you, (www.gooddaysacramento.com/tina), Tina Macuha has inspired so many women to take action. This morning, we honored them!--with breakfast at Matteo's in Carmichael (thank you! Who knew breakfast pizza could be so good??). Each of these women had a story to tell -- many of them getting their first, or their annual, mammogram after hearing that was the way Tina's cancer was diagnosed. And we couldn't be more proud of them!

We also got to debut a new cookie you can find at Ettore's European Bakery (www.ettores.com)! It's a beautiful, 5" tasty pink sugar cookie shaped like a breast cancer ribbon. $2 from every cookie sold goes to breast cancer research. They're available now, and year-'round, not just in October.
