When you were 9 years old, you probably knew who the president was. You probably knew whether your parents liked him or not. You probably knew whether or not he liked broccoli. But would you ever have thought of volunteering on a political campaign, working phone banks, and risking being called all kinds of names by people who don’t agree with you?
Well, that didn’t deter Lorenzo Rivera, who worked tirelessly on U.S. Sen. Barack Obama’s campaign to become President Barack Obama. And you might suspect that because he’s only 9, his parents must have put him up to it, but actually, he was the one who dragged his parents along.
And perhaps this shouldn’t come as a surprise – he was much better informed than a lot of the people he called up.
Lorenzo appears tonight on
the HBO documentary “By the People: The Election of Barack Obama,”
which shows the high drama of the campaign, as well as never-before-seen behind-the-scenes footage of Barack Obama, and interviews with Michelle, Malia and Sasha Obama, among many others. The documentary premieres tonight at 8 p.m.
This morning, Lorenzo stopped by to talk with Roseanne about his campaigning experience. Watch the interview below:
