It was a tough week last week….
I learned my basset hound is - indeed - 13 years old.
No more denying she’s getting older.
Two weeks ago I took her to the vet to have a cyst removed, and then last week I received the news it was a mast tumor – and malignant.
I knew the day would come when she would get sick – or time would catch up with both of us – but I just kept hoping it would be later than sooner.
The good news, the cancer has not spread to her lungs so who knows how much time we have together.
It could be anywhere from six more months to a year or longer.
If you’re like me, your pet is like family.
Ruby was the first dog I bought as an adult – and she’s been with me through so much over the years.
My goal now is to love her more today than yesterday, and keep her from experiencing too much pain.
She’s a gem of a dog – and one I think the world of.
