Whoa! I didn't see this one coming.
Marian Hossa, who turned down an offer from the Penguins for around 7 million dollars per year from anywhere from 5-7 years, has signed a 1 (ONE!) year contract with the Detroit Red Wings worth $7.4 million. I definitely didn't see that coming. One year?!?!?
What is this guy thinking? Apparently, it's a year where Detroit is now clearly the favorite to win the Cup again, and Hossa must be thinking his stock will only rise next year, and he can earn upwards of 10 million per. But that's a pretty big gamble, and an even bigger slap in the face of Pittsburgh.
If you're looking for a bright spot, expect Brooks Orpik to be resigned, and this also frees up a lot of money to spend or save for the trade deadline once again.
But man, that one burns pretty bad.
