A newly formed team consisting of the Dallas Cowboys and Dallas Mavericks seems to have won.
Sources have confirmed to CBS11/TXA21 Sports that an announcement is on the horizon regarding the 2010 NBA All-Star game being played at the new Dallas Cowboys stadium in Arlington. The formal announcement could come as early as Thursday, one source indicated.
The Mavericks open the regular season against the Houston Rockets on Thursday at the American Airlines Center.
Mavericks’ owner Mark Cuban has been reluctant to use the American Airlines Center in Dallas as an All-Star game venue because Mavericks season ticket holders would not have access to their seats during All-Star game weekend. Having the game in Arlington would eliminate the problem. The Mavericks would receive an allotment of tickets for their season ticket holders.
One source indicated that the Mavericks would get around 18,000 tickets for their fans, although another source could not confirm those numbers.
The 2009 All-Star game is in Phoenix. This would be just the second All-Star game in North Texas. Dallas' Reunion Arena hosted the 1986 contest.
Super Bowl XLV will be played in Arlington in February 2011. The Cowboys play their first home game in Arlington in September 2009.
