Several years ago, a college classmate of mine rented “The English Patient” and invited everyone to watch it with her in the dorm lounge. I fell asleep after about 15 minutes. And I know I’m not alone in this; an entire Seinfeld episode was built around Elaine Benes’ disdain for this snoozefest of a movie. And why does the plotline have to be so depressing and at the same time, predictable? Woman cheats on husband with other man, husband finds out, woman flees with other man and something bad happens – in this case, he’s horribly burned and disfigured in a plane crash.
Movies about cheating would be much more entertaining, or at least more tolerable, if the homewrecking interlopers got their just deserts like Sun Meng, 25 of Chengdu, Central China.
As we found out in this article from The Sun, the London tabloid, Sun got caught in bed with his lover by her husband, and fled outside as the husband chased him. He ended up standing on top of an air conditioner on the apartment window, completely naked. And as luck would have it, a neighbor was standing there to snap a picture.
Why, a scene such as this would even have added to “The Graduate.” Wouldn’t it have been more amusing if Benjamin had been shown calling out to Elaine Robinson while standing naked on an air conditioner instead of banging on high church windows?
