Welcome to Conversation Nation, the official home of conversation. Ok, truth be told, conversation doesn’t technically have an official home. But our legal department is looking into it. Until then, this is where David, Paula, Robi and Todd bring their thought bubbles to life and welcome you in to discuss whatever’s on your mind.

Time To Roll The Dice?

Posted by Robi

Will we see some type of gambling legislation passed in Massachusetts this year? Top lawmakers were hoping to get something done this fall.

That may not happen but today at least the debate will get underway as more than a dozen gaming bills are scheduled to be discussed at the statehouse

The governor, the house speaker and the senate president are all behind an effort to bring at least three casinos here saying they believe they can generate hundreds of millions in revenues

Other bills would allow slot machines at racetracks and create a network of video lottery terminals

Opponents know they are being outspent by millions in lobbying but they are not giving up the fight.  They say Massachusetts cannot gamble its way to fiscal stability

If there is gaming, Governor Patrick wants control of it. He's proposing a seven member authority, he would appoint five of them

Is out state ready for gambling? Do you trust our leaders to run it? Would you want a casino or slots in your town?
