State lawmakers have a choice to make. Should they accept a pay raise?
Massachusetts taxpayers may complain about legislators getting a raise but perhaps they shouldn't, after all, they approved it
An amendment to the state constitution, approved by voters in 1998, calls for automatic pay raises for lawmakers every two years. The Governor's office estimates that raise should be 5.5 %
But legislators don't have to take the money, they could individually refuse it or donate the money to charity.
They may be entitled to the money by statute, but symbolically is this the right time to take it?
