Welcome to Conversation Nation, the official home of conversation. Ok, truth be told, conversation doesn’t technically have an official home. But our legal department is looking into it. Until then, this is where David, Paula, Robi and Todd bring their thought bubbles to life and welcome you in to discuss whatever’s on your mind.

Lights Out, Crime Up

Posted by Robi

Is it time to turn the lights back on in Fitchburg? Some residents who have been victimized by vandals think so.

They realize the city is trying to save money but now they believe their safety and property is in danger

Back in March Fitchburg Mayor Lisa Wong decided to pull the plug on sixty percent of the cities lights. She estimated the move could save as much as $64,000 for the rest of the fiscal year.

But now some residents say their cars and homes are being vandalized, this never happened before the lights went out

In a letter to the editor of the Sentinel and Enterprise newspaper, a resident points out Fitchburg now has the money to turn some of the lights back on

Some homeowners have been forced to spend big money now on installing their own security systems and neighborhoods are exploring the cost of paying for their own street lights

Is the mayor compromising  public safety? Should street lights be a priority here?
