With less than 3 weeks until the NHL Trade Deadline, the rumors concerning potential Penguin trades are heating up. The player being linked to the most rumors is defenseman Ryan Whitney. Some people believe that this talk is just internet rumors but I have confirmed that isn't the case. A source close to the Penguins organization tells me that he knows the Pens are actively shopping Whitney because "he's the teams #1 asset." My source went on to say that he's the one player that they're willing to part with that can potentially bring back a scoring winger." The team has seen enough from rookie defenseman Alex Goligoski to believe that he's capable of replacing Whitney in the Pens lineup. Teams believed to have interest in Whitney are the NY Rangers, Tampa Bay and Montreal.
*The meaning behind #1 asset is, player they're most willing to trade. Obviously, Sid Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, Jordan Staal, Marc-Andre Fleury, Kris Letang could bring the team alot more in a trade but GM Ray Shero isn't going to trade those players.
