Hello to everyone who attended the Job Center today and everyone who is doing what they can to help out the thousands of people in our area who are jobless.
Today was another successful Job Center. Because we were fully staffed, I got the chance to chat with the people who were there. I put a face, a name, and a story to the statistics we hear everyday.
It is heartbreaking.
Everyday people are losing their jobs. Experts in their field, managers, highly paid executives, people with 30 years of experience. It's like an illness - there is no discriminating.
I just wanted to quickly reflect on how proud I am of all the people who come out and make this a success for themselves. I chatted with a woman today who is getting back on her feet - a newly single mom with 5 kids - and she is doing everything she can every day to make it happen and provide for her family. She worked on her paper resume with a few of the experts and taped a fabulous video that I will be spotlighting very soon in our "Job Center Spotlight". She isn't sitting around feeling sorry for herself, which is something many of us would do in her situation, she is putting herself out there and making it happen... very impressive.
I hope if you have recently lost your job - but you are nervous about coming out - you give it a chance. If anything, you will see that you are not alone. Today I noticed groups of people forming and talking about why they were there and I noticed the comfort they were feeling about making a friend.
It's powerful stuff. It's affecting all of us in some way or another. Keep checking in with the blog to see some of the pictures I took while I was there today - and for more articles and tips.
I love hearing from you, so please feel free to leave a comment below - what's happening with you?
