Places That Are Hiring

It's hard to believe that there are still places hiring in this crazy economy.  We keep hearing more and more bad news about people losing their jobs.  Just today, wireless giant Verizon announced they are laying off 8 thousand workers nation wide.  Looking for a site with some places you may be able to find a job??  Look here.  This is a site showing all of the companies hiring in July, so even if you are a little late, it can't hurt to try.

Today there is a huge job fair in Sacramento.  Courtney Dempsey is covering it this morning.  Here are the details:

Sacramento Scottish Rite Center

11AM to 3PM

6152 H Street in Sacramento

More than 30 hiring companies are expected to attend

Make sure you keep me posted if you hear from any employers after visiting our Good Day Job Center!  We would love to feature you.  The next spotlight is happeneing this Thursday, let me know if you want to be featured!

Crazy Job Qualifications

Twitter Critics: BEWARE!  It could cost you the job!

We've all heard the typical job qualifications: education, experience, people person... but who knew twitter could be one!

Best Buy is hiring for a "Senior Managing Position" and in order to get the job - you have to have more than 250 twitter followers!  (Along with a degree, of course.)

Here is the link to get more information on how to apply. http://macedoniaonline.eu/content/view/7545/56/

Do you tweet?  What do you think of this quickly emerging technology?  Interesting, right?

PS.  Sorry about not having the Spotlights on the blog... I was having some technical video issues, but they are getting fixed right now - so stay tuned for a spotlight on Suzanne Jarquin, Cheddi Skeete, and Michelle Moore. You could be next... keep watching in the 9 o'clock hour on Tuesday's and Thursday's to see if you are our next spotlight.

Also, have any of you gotten interviews or jobs?  Keep us posted!

Job Center Pictures

It's easy... here's what to expect when you film your video!
Even the Cow from Chik-Fil-A got in on the free massages!
Chris Burrous goes live from the Job Center all 5 hours on Good Day Sacramento.
Employers lined the hallways talking to people about future job opportunities.
These Job Center people got some extra help on their paper resumes from the experts!

It was a morning of fabulous video resumes, help with your paper resumes, talking with future employers and of course, some free breakfast and snacks.

We will be spotlighting as many of the people from this job center as possible.  Thanks for having the courage to come out!

Another Successful Job Center

Hello to everyone who attended the Job Center today and everyone who is doing what they can to help out the thousands of people in our area who are jobless.

Today was another successful Job Center.  Because we were fully staffed, I got the chance to chat with the people who were there. I put a face, a name, and a story to the statistics we hear everyday.

It is heartbreaking.

Everyday people are losing their jobs.  Experts in their field, managers, highly paid executives, people with 30 years of experience.  It's like an illness - there is no discriminating.

I just wanted to quickly reflect on how proud I am of all the people who come out and make this a success for themselves.  I chatted with a woman today who is getting back on her feet - a newly single mom with 5 kids - and she is doing everything she can every day to make it happen and provide for her family.    She worked on her paper resume with a few of the experts and taped a fabulous video that I will be spotlighting very soon in our "Job Center Spotlight".  She isn't sitting around feeling sorry for herself, which is something many of us would do in her situation, she is putting herself out there and making it happen... very impressive.

I hope if you have recently lost your job - but you are nervous about coming out - you give it a chance.  If anything, you will see that you are not alone.  Today I noticed groups of people forming and talking about why they were there and I noticed the comfort they were feeling about making a friend.

It's powerful stuff.  It's affecting all of us in some way or another.  Keep checking in with the blog to see some of the pictures I took while I was there today - and for more articles and tips.

I love hearing from you, so please feel free to leave a comment below - what's happening with you?

Tracy Z

Got Confidence?

We've told you tips week after week about how to get a job... and one of them is to have confidence.  But having confidence can be pretty tough when you've just lost your job and you're feeling a little desperate to get food on the table.  Can you relate?  Here are some quick tips I compiled from a few articles online.

1.  Ask yourself... "What's the worse that can happen?"  Looking at the worst - most likely being the answer "no" - may help boost you up.  It's okay to take some risks.

2. Visualize.  Imagine yourself succeeding and doing what you really want to do.

3. Imitate - if you find someone who is confident in what they do, copy them.

4. On that note - ditch the naggin on yourself.  That negative voice inside your head won't help you.

5. Remind yourself that you miss out on 100% of the opportunities you don't try for - so give it a shot, you have nothing to lose.

What do you do to boost your confidence?  How do you put yourself out there?

My biggest confidence booster is the visualization key.  I can close my eyes and invision myself doing well - it doesn't get me the job, but it helps.

Don't forget: JOB CENTER JULY 8th at Western Career College in Sacramento.  We want to see you there - we'll help boost your confidence!
