1. Will taking the H1N1 vaccine eliminate the risk of contracting the
virus? Or is there still a chance you may get ill? No vaccine is 100% effective, but this one has a good efficacy rate,
so indeed there might be a few people who do not respond adequately to
this vaccine. In addition, children under the age of 10 need one dose,
then a booster about 3-4 weeks later. Finally, it does not produce
protection for perhaps 10 days post vaccination, if we you were exposed
to the virus before being vaccinated or in the time until it becomes
effective, you might come down with Novel H1N1 virus infection (Swine
Flu).
2. In the 70's, i got a shot at school. Was that for the swine flu or do
i still need to get the vaccine?
***Yes, you will still need to be vaccinated to be protected.
3. Can you get H1N1 again once you already had it?
***We don't believe so, since other influenza viruses cause immunity.
However, all viruses change or mutate over time, so that could happen
with this virus and you then would not be protected by your original
exposure.
