We are in for a few chilly days. Last night was a cold night. Some areas got into the upper 20s while most stayed in the low to mid 30s. Temperatures did not warm up too much today as we had plenty of cloud cover. It wasn't too bad, but it was on the cool side.
Now a frontal boundary and an upper level system are moving through the region and will so during the day on Thursday. Temperatures Thursday will be back into the low 50s, but it will really cool down Thursday night and into Friday. Most locations will be quite cold on Thursday night as lows will again fall into the low 30s in most locations. Temperatures will be hard pressed to rebound during the day on Friday, even with sunshine. We will see rather breezy, if not windy, conditions during the day. The high will most likely be in the low to mid 40s in most locations with a high in the upper 40s in the city. We will be talking about wind chills during the day as well, especially in the morning. Wind chills Friday morning may be in the mid to upper 20s so get out those coats!
Now, here is the good news. By Saturday afternoon the same area of high pressure that is bringing in the cold air, will move off to the east ushering in much warmer air. Saturday will be much nicer with a high back in the mid 50s. It gets even better as we head into Sunday as high temperatures may reach back into the 60s. This is looking like a great weekend!! Get out and enjoy it and bundle up until then! Nov 1, 2009 10:51 PM

We saw yet another rainy weekend as we entered the month of November. If you have been thinking we have seen a lot of rainy weekends lately, you would be right. Six of the last Seven weekends have had some rain and a few of them have been total washouts! It has been horrible!
Sometimes we get into these patterns though and it may take a while to break out of them. The good news is that I think we may just be breaking out of our current funk. This week should be fairly dry. There is a chance of a shower or two both Tomorrow and Thursday, but we will not see much at all either day. As of right now, the weekend is looking mild and dry! Let's just hope it will stay that way.
Temperatures this week will be on the cool side. The warmest day should be on Tuesday. Right now I am thinking we should see a high near 60 with some sun. A cold front will move through on Tuesday though and it should really cool us down. Highs for the rest of the week will struggle to reach 50 and we will be in the 30s overnight through the end of the week. It will be Chilly as we head into what looks like a better weekend.
Have a great week everyone and GO PHILLIES!! Oct 29, 2009 8:10 PM Posted by: Doug Kammerer
The weather for game one was not exactly ideal for a ball game, but the Phillies were able to take advantage of the Yankees and Yankee stadium last night. Tonight's weather looks much nicer. It will be cool but it will still be nice. Go Phils for game #2!!
On Friday we will see a mix of clouds and sun, with more clouds early in the day. High temperatures should reach the low 60s during the day and all in all it should be a pretty good day.
By Saturday a strong cold front will move toward the region. Ahead of that front, very warm air will move into the region. I think, that with some sunshine, we should be able to reach the mid 70s across the area. It will once again be a very warm Halloween. Over the last 6 years our Halloween temperatures have averaged over 70 degrees and we should be warm again. That front however will have some shower activity with it and it may come during the evening hours, when many of us will be out trick or treating. That leads us to the forecast for game 3!
Temperatures on Saturday will be warm as we mentioned and they will stay warm for the game.
The only fly in the ointment is going to be the chance of showers during the game. Right now, I do think that we will see some kind of rain during the game. As of right now, I do not see a wash out and I think they will get it in, but this is a very tough forecast. The rain may hold off until late in the game, but some of it could be heavier late. Again this one is tough. Stay tuned to the forecast if you are thinking of tailgating or going to the game on Saturday night.
Have a great Friday and once again GO PHILS!!!!!!!! Oct 27, 2009 1:05 PM "Rain, Rain go away and come again another day", unfortunately the rain is going away for a bit today, but it will come back tomorrow. Some areas picked up a half inch to an inch earlier this morning. As I write this now at 12:30 pm there are still a few showers left over. The rest of the day will be gloomy and damp with showers off and on. As one storm moves away, another takes shape to our south. Right now they are seeing very heavy rain in parts of the southeast and that rain is moving in our direction. Wednesday will be another rainy day with some locations once again picking up another half inch to an inch. Keep the umbrellas handy over the next 24 to 36 hours. That same storm system may impact the start of the Phillies World Series game in New York. It should be raining all day in New York. I do think that the rain will start to pull away from the area as we near closer to game time, but it is going to be close. The first part of the game, if they play, could be wet. If you are planning on going to the game make sure to take the umbrella and the poncho. Thursday and Friday will be much nicer days as high temperatures should be in the mid to upper 60s both days with sunshine. Thursday may start off cloudy, but there should be plenty of sun by days end. Have a great afternoon everyone! Doug Kammerer CBS 3 Meteorologist Oct 25, 2009 11:49 PM

After yet another rainy Saturday, Sunday was beautiful with plenty of sunshine. High pressure will be in control over the next day or so, but that is going to be about it for the sun.
Monday will be a great day with more sunshine and mild temperatures. Highs will be in the low to mid 60s.
The nice days and the sunshine will not continue though. High pressure will move out on Tuesday and a storm will move in from the south late in the day. I am expecting showers to move in to the south and east during the afternoon Tuesday. I think it will be mostly lighter rain during the day Tuesday, but heavier rain is going to move in for the day on Wednesday. Over the two day event, some areas could once again see another inch or more of rain. We could see some more flooding, although I do not see that as being a huge concern right now.
The good news is that the weather is looking much better for the end of the week as temperatures should be able to climb in to the mid to upper 60s on Thursday and Friday. The weekend is a big question mark right now and I will give more updates on it as we get closer. For now, enjoy Monday!!! Oct 20, 2009 9:33 PM Posted by: Doug Kammerer
Wednesday will be another almost perfect day. In an earlier blog this year I described my perfect day as 80 degrees, plenty of sunshine and low humidity. Wednesday will be about as perfect as it gets for mid October as there will be plenty of sunshine and a high near 70. It is really going to be nice during the day and it should be perfect baseball weather Wednesday night for the Phils. If you are heading to the game, expect a great night weather wise with a game time temperature of about 63 with light winds. Temps will fall into the mid to upper 50s by games end, but it will still be nice.
Thursday we will see more high cloud cover, but it should still be a great day with highs in the low 70s for just about everyone. A front will try to move through the area late in the day and overnight.
That front will cool things off for Friday as highs will struggle to reach 60. There will be plenty of clouds Friday and we should see some shower activity by late in the day.
That sets the stage for Saturday, which is once again looking like a rainy, windy and gloomy day.
A big storm will be developing to our west on Friday. That storm will bring in plenty of Gulf and Atlantic moisture and may just give us another big soaking rain for the first part of the weekend. It will be windy as well, with winds gusting to 20-30 mph during the afternoon.
Right now, I think rain is a good bet for Saturday. I am hoping that the storm is weaker though and that the rain may be quick moving. There is a small chance that this could happen. If the upper level low is not as strong and does not dig down to the south quite as far, we may just be able to skirt the system somewhat. If that were the case, then the low would track farther to the north and west. That would mean warmer temperatures and less rainfall. This scenario did play out a few weeks ago when the models were predicting 1-2 inches of rain early in the week and we actually saw a lot less. I will keep my fingers crossed, but as of right now, I have my umbrella ready. Oct 18, 2009 10:58 PM

After four straight days of cold, rain, snow and wind, we are finally going to see some much nicer weather. Our Nor'easter is gone!! In it's wake we will still see a very cold morning on Monday and a chilly day, but at least the sun sill be out. Highs on Monday will still be about 10 degrees below normal with a high in the mid 50s. That is a heck of a lot better than the low 40s we have been dealing with though.
By Tuesday, the cold air will be but a memory and we will start to see more seasonable weather. Highs will actually be a little above normal as we should reach into the mid to upper 60s with plenty of sunshine. Wednesday should see similar conditions and Thursday will be great as well.
Friday will mark changes however. I am going to go for a high on Friday of 70 degrees, but it looks as if there may be a few showers late in the day ahead of a cold front. That cold front looks like it will bring us rain into the day on Saturday. I am going to be watching this storm closely as I do not want to see another weekend washout, but right now that is what I am looking at. The models do tend to be fast on these types of systems, so it could be that we see the showers on Saturday and the rain on Sunday. We will have to wait to see. Check back here and I will give you the latest. Stay tuned! Oct 15, 2009 10:51 PM

We saw some pretty nasty weather during the day Thursday and more is on the way. Thursday brought it all, high winds down the shore, cold temperatures everywhere, heavy rain and even snow from the Lehigh Valley and points north. Friday will be a little less nasty, but still nasty.
Storm number one will move out during the day Friday. I expect rain during the day, but most of it will be on the light side. There will be periods of rain with drizzle as well. Winds will still be an issue, but I think the biggest problems tomorrow will be down the shore. A coastal flood warning is in effect for our shore points during the morning and I think there could be some considerable coastal flooding and it may only get worse as we move into the day Saturday and Sunday as storm number two gets going.
Our first storm will continue to move away from the region on Saturday, but storm number two will be building in right behind it. This one may be a bit stronger as well with some heavy rain during the day Saturday and may bring even stronger winds. Depending on the location of the low, we could once again see some snow in the Lehigh Valley. I will be watching this closely. The Poconos will see some more snow and it could once again accumulate. I expect more watches, warnings and advisories to be posted during the day tomorrow for our second storm.
By late Saturday night, the heaviest of the rain should be letting up. The winds will still remain though so the coastal flooding problems will persist. We will see more showers and drizzle for much of the day Sunday before our storm finally starts to move away.
The best news is that next week looks much better with temperatures back into the 60's and plenty of sunshine. Just hold on! Oct 15, 2009 4:29 PM

I have been going over this forecast time and time again and it just keeps looking more and more amazing. We are going to see two early season Nor'easters. It is very rare to see them back to back like this and even more rare to see them back to back this early in the season, but yet here they come. I also keep looking at the new data and it continues to come in colder and colder. There now looks to be enough cold air for some area of PA to see their first snow of the season. Parts of Northern and Central PA could even see some big time snow totals over the next few days. I think even a few locations in our area may be cold enough for the first flakes of the season.
Here is how I seeing this go down as of right now. First the storm, which is currently developing off the Carolina coastline, will make its way into our region during the day Thursday. Rain will develop through the day and become steadier and heavier as the day goes on. The winds will increase throughout the day as well and tomorrow evening rush hour is not looking very good. I think Friday mornings rush hour will be even worse.
To the North and West enough cold air may be in place for snow to fall. I see the potential for significant snow, meaning at least a few inches, to fall in the Poconos. If you are driving to the north or west, please be aware of winter like driving conditions. Also, if enough snow falls here, I think we could see a lot of tree limbs and power lines down north of interstate 80. Farther south toward the Lehigh valley, I think there could be a few flakes as well. Here I do not see much in the way of accumulation, but I do think we may see some flakes from both storm number one and storm number two.
Storm number one moves out on Friday afternoon. The wind will remain but the rain will let up. Saturday morning will start off windy with some light rain or drizzle. The rain and even windier conditions will move back in by later that afternoon with the heaviest rain looking to occur Sunday morning. This second Nor'easter may have even colder air on the back side and more of the area could see a few snow flakes, they may even get as far south as Montgomery, Bucks and upper Chester counties. This is the part of the forecast that is the toughest and I urge anyone in that area to stay tuned to the weather over the next few days.
Shore impacts from this are going to be the greatest. We will see a persistent onshore flow from Thursday right on through the day on Sunday. I think we will see some big time coastal flooding in this area. The shore will also see the strongest winds which could gust over 50 mph. If you live in this area be careful heading out. We could see some downed trees and wires.
All and all this will be a big test for the region as we have not seen weather like this for months. Stay tuned to CBS 3 and CBS3.com for the latest. We will keep you posted. Oct 13, 2009 11:41 PM Posted by: Doug Kammerer
A lot of people have been telling me that they have been waiting for the cooler weather, but have the same folks been waiting for colder weather and a Nor'easter??? I doubt it, but it is coming.
We will see a cold night tonight in many areas and a frost advisory has been posted for many parts of the area. Temperatures will dip into the mid 30s in some of the colder spots tonight while it should remain in the 40s along the I-95 corridor. Temperatures during the day on Wednesday will also be rather chilly and most areas will be nearly 10-15 degrees below average for this time of year. That being said, it will be the warmest day until early next week.
Our region is going to be under the gun over the next few days with cold temperatures and not one but TWO potential Nor'easters that WILL affect your weekend. The rain and wind will start during the day on Thursday and will not be out of here until late Monday. Storm number one will start on Thursday and bring heavy rain and wind Thursday night into early Friday. We may see a small break from the heavy rain late Friday and into early Saturday morning, but the wind will remain. The rain will return later Saturday and once again be heavy later Saturday and into the day on Sunday. The second storm could be stronger with even higher winds. Winds will be gusty through the period and may reach 20-30 mph during the first storm and between 30 and 40 mph in storm number two.
This is a very tough forecast and things may change over the next few days, but we are in for the two storms. The timing may change, as might the amount of rain and wind, but it will be a bad weekend if you have plans outdoors. Make sure to stay tuned to CBS 3 for the latest on these storms as we will continue to keep you up to date. | |
